Iron Man 3 is probably the best script I’ve read in five years, which is so funny. I mean, things have come so full circle that a genre superhero movie can actually be the most artistic bit of writing I read. But I think The Avengers is something a lot of the fans are really looking forward to, so I’m excited about that. The third Iron Man to me is an opportunity to go back to the kind of storytelling and character exploration that made the first one good

HOT TOYS / IRON MAN MARK VI (BATTLE DAMAGED) / REVIEW

After the Odin debacle, I put a pre-order in for Captain America and made the nebulous plan that I eventually wanted all the Avengers. My favorite Iron Man suit thus far has been Mark III, but that one has been long sold out and pretty pricey at this point. That left me with the choice between Mark I (gorgeous, AMAZING body sculpt, coupled with a underwhelming RDJ head), Mark II (close, but I want the iconic red!), Mark IV (meh), Mark V (ugh), and the battle-damaged LE Mark VI (bitching detailing! :D! but not Mark III! D:) … or I could wait til The Avengers. I figured since Mark VIs are getting scarce (and will probably get harder to find after The Avengers) and I don’t know if they’ll do another battle-damaged suit, I might as well grab the one I found in Burbank.

Pros:

  • Lots of fun accessories: there are a closed and two opened variants of each hand, normal and damaged versions of the chest plate, the thighs, and one arm, a variety of teeny tiny weapons to plug in on the shoulders/wrists/back, and two heads (one regular helmet that lights up, one open one with lovely RDJ sculpt).
  • Thoughtful details: tiny, concealed (individual) switches for the head, hands, and reactor lights; a magnet in the open helmet that gives you more control over where the faceplace sits; little random nicks in the finish even on the non-interchangable pieces, which helps make the battle-damaged pieces blend in better and look more like part of a whole rather than bits you snap in.

Cons:

  • … Weirdly thoughtless sculpting in regards to posing. The way the feet are connected to the ankles and the thighs to the hips basically means he can move his legs front to back, but can’t rotate his feet or upper legs. It’s really hard to get a nice, natural contrappasto when you can’t even twist the feet for balance. (Also, the feet are constructed in such a way that he often ends up placing all the weight on the balls of his feet, and that just looks weird.)

So, there you go. Just in case you’re curious. there’re my 500 words on a figure i’m just going to end up posing inappropriately with captain america anyway
